DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco
Welcome to the 5-day «Inti Raymi Machupicchu Tour»! Your experience begins as soon as you land in Cusco. It’s vital that we have your flight details so we can arrange your smooth transfer to the designated hotel. Today is all about easing into your adventure—no formal activities are scheduled, giving you the perfect chance to explore the captivating city of Cusco at your own pace. Cusco isn’t just any destination; it’s a portal to an ancient culture that once ruled the vast Tahuantinsuyo Empire from the 12th to the 16th century.
Our Recommendations:
- Take a leisurely stroll through the iconic Plaza de Armas and its enchanting surroundings, where Cusqueñian artisans showcase their exceptional craftsmanship.
- Savor a meal at one of the city’s renowned Peruvian restaurants, or unwind on a bench in the Plaza de Armas park. Capture these moments to treasure, all while enjoying the mild daytime warmth and preparing for the cool Cusco night.
- If you’re a nightlife enthusiast, the area around the square buzzes with vibrant nightclubs and bars, perfect for mingling with both tourists and locals, all set to enjoy great music and drinks.
Day 2: Inti Raymi Tour
Today kicks off the Inti Raymi festival, a cultural experience you won’t forget. We’ll collect you from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. and take you to Qorikancha, the Temple of the Sun, where the ceremony begins. Dedicate your day to this awe-inspiring Inca tradition, deeply meaningful to the local people. The main event unfolds at the Fortress of Sacsaywaman, where offerings of llama blood and chicha (a corn-based drink) are presented to the Sun god, INTI, and mother earth. The Inti Raymi takes place during the winter solstice, a time when the Incas believed the sun was furthest from the earth. In ancient times, the Incas gathered in Cusco to honor the Sun God and plea for his return, fasting and abstaining from physical pleasures, presenting offerings to the Inca who then hosted a grand feast to ensure the sun’s favor.
Day 3: Sacred Valley of The Incas
At 8:00 a.m., we’ll set off from the hotel to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas, an essential agricultural area that still sustains Cusco with its rich produce, especially corn and vegetables. Our journey includes a visit to the impressive ruins of Pisac and its bustling artisan market, where you can purchase unique handcrafted items directly from local artisans. From Pisac, we travel to the scenic village of Ollantaytambo, home to another significant Inca archaeological site. Admired for its remarkable urban planning and engineering, Ollantaytambo stands as a testament to Inca ingenuity, with its grand terraces and strategic fortifications. By afternoon, you’ll enjoy a scenic two-hour train ride to Aguas Calientes, where your hotel accommodations await.
Our Recommendations:
- Wear comfortable footwear as you’ll be navigating numerous steps. Don’t forget a small backpack, camera, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle.
- In Pisac village, make sure to sample the delicious empanadas and pick up a memorable artisan souvenir.
- Enjoy a delightful buffet lunch in Urubamba, and don’t miss the chance to taste the distinctive Sacred Valley corn.
Day 4: Machu Picchu Trip
Start your day with an early breakfast at the hotel before we take a short 5-minute walk to the bus station for a 25-minute ride to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. Here, a guided tour awaits you, lasting about two hours and covering all significant sites, temples, residences, and viewpoints. Our knowledgeable guides will enrich your visit with fascinating insights. After the tour, you’ll have ample time to further explore, snap incredible photos or embark on optional walks. Once your adventure at Machu Picchu concludes, we’ll return by bus to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, you’ll take a scenic two-hour train journey to Ollantaytambo, from where we’ll transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco.

WHAT TO BRING?
For a multi-day train trip to Machu Picchu, consider packing the following essentials:
Many travelers opt for a small or medium-sized wheeled suitcase, perfect for the storage capacity of our private vehicles. Whatever you decide to bring, remember that you’ll need to manage your own luggage, navigate airports, enter and exit hotels, and occasionally walk short distances with it. We generally advise traveling as light as possible. Additionally, don’t forget a backpack for activities and day trips. Regarding airline baggage, check-in luggage typically has a maximum weight limit of 20kg.
Beyond your usual travel necessities, here are some specific packing tips to enhance your journey:
ESSENTIAL ITEMS:
- Closed-toe shoes are vital for protecting your feet from cuts and scrapes and serve as a barrier against rare bites or stings, whether you’re walking in cities or exploring grasslands.
- Sun protection: bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
- Original passport: Keep it in a secure and dry location while touring Machu Picchu.
- Extra cash in Soles, preferably in small denominations, for purchasing souvenirs.
- A camera to capture memorable moments.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Sunglasses.
RECOMMENDED ITEMS:
- Keep electronic and/or hard copies of all important documents, including plane tickets, passport, and vaccination certificate. Store printed copies separately from the originals. While not valid as official replacements, these copies can ease the replacement process if needed.
- A reusable water bottle, with a minimum capacity of 1.5 liters, is advised. The global environmental impact of bottled water is significant, with the production of a single 1-liter bottle requiring 2 liters of water and 200 ml of oil, much of which ends up in limited landfills or contaminates natural environments.
- Electrical adapter plug.
- A personal medical kit is important. Although your guide will bring a comprehensive kit, it’s advisable to carry essentials like mild pain relievers, electrolytes, and band-aids.
- Fly spray.
- Use your phone or a separate alarm clock.
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
- Earplugs to safeguard against possible snoring disturbances from a roommate.
- Phrasebook.
VALUABLE ITEMS:
Avoid bringing unnecessary valuables and utilize your hotel’s safe. Investing in a money belt or pouch that can be discreetly concealed is also recommended.
LAUNDRY DETERGENT:
Laundry services are available at many hotels and cities during your trip. However, you might need to wait for a two-night layover to ensure timely pickup. Hotel laundry services usually charge per item, while laundromats typically charge per kilo, enabling cost savings (approximately $2 per kilo).
