Why is this important? Circuit 2 is widely considered the most complete and desirable route. It gives you access to the iconic upper observation platforms—where you get that famous «postcard perfect» photo of the ruins with Huayna Picchu in the background—before guiding you down through the main temples and plazas.
What you will see: You won’t miss a thing. This route covers the top panoramic spots as well as the key architectural wonders deep inside the urban sector.

🎒 Pack Smart: 6-Day Cusco & Amazon Packing Guide
Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime! From the cool Andean peaks to the humid Amazon jungle, this trip covers it all. Packing the right gear will ensure you are comfortable, safe, and ready to enjoy every moment.
The Golden Rule: Pack Light! While our private vehicles handle the heavy lifting between destinations, you will still need to handle your own luggage at airports and hotels.
Luggage: A small-to-medium wheeled suitcase (approx. 20kg / 44lbs) is ideal.
Day Pack: You will need a comfortable backpack for daily excursions to carry your water, camera, and rain gear.
✅ The Essentials (Don’t leave home without these!)
Sturdy Closed-Toe Shoes: Crucial for two reasons: protecting your feet on the uneven cobblestones of Cusco and keeping you safe from bugs on jungle trails.
Sun Protection: The high-altitude sun is strong, and the jungle sun is intense!
Wide-brimmed hat
High SPF sunscreen
Polarized sunglasses
Insect Repellent: Absolutely vital for the Amazon leg of the trip to protect against mosquitoes.
Original Passport: You must have this to enter Machu Picchu and board your flights. Keep it in a dry, safe place.
Cash (Small Soles): Carry local currency in small denominations for buying unique souvenirs or snacks in remote areas.
Camera: You are visiting one of the most photogenic places on earth—bring extra memory cards!
🌿 Recommended Gear & Eco-Tips
Reusable Water Bottle (1.5L+): Please help us keep Peru beautiful. Single-use plastic is a major environmental issue here. We strongly encourage bringing a refillable bottle.
Personal Medical Kit: Your guide carries a large first aid kit, but for your own comfort, please bring:
Mild painkillers (Tylenol/Advil)
Electrolytes (great for altitude hydration)
Band-aids
Any personal medication
Document Copies: Keep digital photos or physical photocopies of your passport and tickets separate from the originals. It makes replacement much easier if the originals go missing.
Electrical Adapter: Peru generally uses Types A and C plugs.
Phone/Alarm Clock: Essential for waking up for those early jungle sunrises!
🛌 Comfort & Optional Items
Earplugs: A simple lifesaver if you have a snoring roommate or a hotel near a busy street.
Spanish Phrasebook: A little Hablamos Español goes a long way in connecting with the locals.
Fly Spray: Useful for specific jungle insects.
💎 Valuables & Safety
Leave the Bling: Avoid bringing unnecessary expensive jewelry.
Be Secure: Use the hotel safe for passports and large amounts of cash.
On Your Person: A discreet money belt or hidden pouch is a smart investment for travel days.
🏔️ Handling the Altitude (Soroche)
Cusco sits at 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) above sea level. It is common to feel a little short of breath or lightheaded upon arrival.
Take it Easy: We recommend taking your first day in Cusco very slowly. Avoid heavy physical activity and eat light meals.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water.
Coca Tea: Try the local remedy! Mate de Coca (coca leaf tea) is available in most hotels and is excellent for settling the stomach and helping with altitude.
💉 Amazon Health & Vaccines
Visiting the rainforest requires a few extra precautions compared to the mountains.
Yellow Fever: While not always strictly checked at the airport for short tourist visits, it is highly recommended that travelers visiting Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon basin be vaccinated against Yellow Fever at least 10 days before travel. Please consult your doctor or a travel clinic for the most up-to-date medical advice.
Malaria: Malaria risk is generally low in the specific tourist lodges we visit, but we always recommend consulting your doctor about whether prophylaxis is right for you.
Bug Bites: The best defense is a good offense! Wear long sleeves/trousers during dawn and dusk, and use a strong insect repellent containing DEET.
🥗 Dietary Requirements
Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten-free? Allergies?
We’ve got you covered. We are happy to accommodate specific dietary needs. Please just let us know on your booking form so our chefs in the Amazon and guides in the Sacred Valley can prepare accordingly.
🧳 Luggage Storage
You do not need to carry all your luggage with you everywhere!
Machu Picchu: The train has strict weight limits. You will leave your main suitcase in your Cusco hotel storage and take only a small overnight bag.
The Amazon: Similarly, for the boat transfer to the lodge, we recommend taking a smaller bag and leaving large hard-shell suitcases in the secure storage at the Puerto Maldonado office (or Cusco hotel, depending on your flight logistics). Our team will organize this for you.
💧 Water Safety
Tap Water: The tap water in Peru is generally not safe to drink. Please stick to bottled, filtered, or boiled water.
In the Amazon: Our lodges provide purified water stations where you can refill your reusable bottles for free.
