🚂 Choose Your Journey: Train Experience Guide
The journey to Machu Picchu is just as magical as the destination. Here is how to choose the right train for you:
1. The Expedition Train: Adventure Meets Comfort
Perfect for: The practical traveler seeking comfort and culture.
Designated for the adventurer at heart, the Expedition train focuses on comfort and safety without compromising on style.
The Vibe: Seats feature intricate Inca-inspired patterns, connecting you to the local culture from the moment you board.
Convenience: Designed with travelers in mind, there is ample space for your daypacks above your seat.
Amenities: Feeling peckish? A selection of beverages and snacks is available for purchase to keep you fueled for the hike ahead.
2. The Vistadome Train: Scenic Luxury
Perfect for: Photography lovers and those who want a sensory experience.
Why just look out the window when you can be surrounded by the view? The Vistadome turns the journey into a visual spectacle.
The View: Refurbished with massive panoramic windows (even on the roof!), this train ensures you don’t miss a single mountain peak or cloud forest orchid.
The Service: Sit back and relax with complimentary snacks and a selection of hot and cold drinks served at your seat.
The Experience: It’s more than just transport; it’s an immersive cultural experience with music and dance often performed on board.
🧳 Packing Guide: Get Ready for Your Adventure
Pack smart, travel light, and enjoy every moment.
Getting ready for your Cusco tour is exciting! To make your trip as smooth as possible, we recommend bringing a small to medium-sized wheeled suitcase. This fits perfectly in our private transport and makes navigating the airport and hotel lobbies a breeze.
Pro Tip: Most airlines limit checked bags to 20 kg (44 lbs). We recommend keeping it light to leave room for souvenirs!
✅ The Essentials (Don’t leave home without these!)
Original Passport: This is your golden ticket! You need your physical passport to enter Machu Picchu and board the train. Keep it dry and safe.
Sturdy Footwear: You will be walking on ancient cobblestones and uneven trails. Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes or hiking sneakers are your best friends here.
Sun Protection: The high-altitude sun is strong. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and quality sunglasses.
Cash (Soles): While many places take cards, we recommend carrying Peruvian Soles in small denominations for buying local handicrafts or snacks.
Camera: To capture the magic of the Andes.
Insect Repellent: Nature is beautiful, but the bugs in the lower valleys (like Machu Picchu) can be hungry.
🌿 Recommended for a Better Trip
Reusable Water Bottle: Help us preserve the beauty of Peru by reducing plastic waste. A 1.5-liter bottle is perfect for staying hydrated at altitude.
Document Backups: Keep digital or physical copies of your passport and flight tickets separate from the originals, just in case.
Personal Med Kit: While our guides carry a first aid kit, bring your own basics: band-aids, mild painkillers, and electrolytes.
Tech Gear: An electrical adapter (Peru uses Type A and C) and a portable phone charger.
Alarm Clock: To ensure you wake up in time for those magical early morning sunrises (or just use your phone!).
💤 Optional Comforts
Earplugs: Useful if you are a light sleeper or if your roommate snores!
Phrasebook: A small Spanish/Quechua phrasebook is a great way to connect with locals.
💎 Valuables & Safety
Travel Light, Travel Safe. We recommend leaving expensive jewelry at home. For the essentials you do bring:
Use the safe provided in your hotel room.
Consider a money belt or discreet pouch for your passport and extra cash while exploring.
🧺 Laundry: Staying Fresh on the Go
Need to freshen up your clothes? You have two options during your stay in Cusco:
Hotel Service: Convenient but pricier (charged per item). Ideal if you need it back quickly.
Local Laundromats: The economical choice! Located near most hotels, they typically charge by weight (approx. $2 USD per kilo) and wash/dry/fold for you.
Note: You usually need a 2-night stay in one location to ensure there is enough time for laundry turnaround.
ESSENTIAL TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR YOUR 3-DAY CUSCO TOUR
VITAL DETAILS FOR YOUR ADVENTURE:
- Eager to experience the marvels of Cusco and Machu Picchu? Ensure your tour is booked under the exact name present on your passport to lock in those essential permits and train tickets. Keep in mind, any name alterations within 45 days before departure may necessitate new tickets and could involve additional charges.
- Prefer the comfort of your own room? We offer a single room option, contingent on availability. Seeking more details? Your dedicated agent is ready to provide all necessary information.
- Imagine this: a guided journey through the majestic Machu Picchu. The tour is crafted for an optimal experience, so independent exploration post-tour isn’t feasible. However, the sights you’ll witness are unparalleled!
- After your deposit is paid and passport details are submitted, SPT Travel & Tours swiftly acts to obtain your Machu Picchu permits, though availability may vary.
- Be aware that certain parts of your itinerary ascend above 2,800 meters, which can lead to altitude-related symptoms. Consulting with your doctor could offer reassurances.
- Highland hotels typically supply oxygen for your comfort, though prolonged use might incur an extra fee. Embrace the unique altitude experience!

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Your original passport is essential for gaining entry to Machu Picchu and securing other reservations. Have you renewed or changed your passport? Traveling with different passport numbers necessitates having both documents.
ALTITUDE SICKNESS GUIDE
Journey to high altitudes up to 2,500m and savor the excitement of soaring above the ordinary. Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level or endurance, especially if there’s a prior history or one exercises or drinks before acclimatizing. Take the plunge, and consult a doctor beforehand to ensure your insurance covers any potential emergencies or medical needs.
CULINARY ADVENTURES AND MEALS
We advise budgeting 25 to 50 USD daily for meals. Here’s a delectable breakdown:

- Lunch: Quick meals at local establishments range from $5-$10, or opt for charming tourist restaurants at about 10 to 15 USD.

8. What about dietary restrictions? We take food preferences seriously. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have allergies, just inform us at the time of booking. We will ensure the restaurants and your guide are aware.
9. How do I handle altitude sickness? Cusco is high up (3,400m)! We design our tours to be paced gently.
Our Tip: Drink plenty of water, eat light meals on your first day, and try the local Mate de Coca (Coca tea). Our guides are also trained to help you manage any symptoms.
10. Where do I get picked up? We provide door-to-door service. Whether you are staying at a hotel, hostel, or Airbnb in the Cusco city center, we will pick you up and drop you off for all tours and airport transfers.
