Day 1: Welcome to the Land of the Incas
Arrival & City Discovery Upon your arrival at Cusco Airport, our friendly team will be waiting to greet you and transfer you to your hotel. We recommend resting for a few hours to adjust to the altitude. Afternoon: Once you are refreshed, we embark on a guided City Tour. We will walk the vibrant Plaza de Armas, visit the intricate Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), and marvel at the massive stone fortress of Sacsayhuaman. This is your introduction to the fascinating blend of Andean and Spanish history.
Overnight in Cusco.
Day 2: The Sacred Valley & Train to the Jungle
Today is devoted to the lush agricultural heart of the Inca Empire. We will traverse the Sacred Valley, visiting the impressive terraces of Pisac and the living Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Along the way, we’ll stop at a traditional village to learn how Chicha—the sacred corn beer of the Incas—is brewed (and taste it!). Evening: Unlike standard tours that return to Cusco, we will board the scenic train in the afternoon. Watch the landscape transform from dry mountains to lush jungle as we journey to Aguas Calientes.
Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Day 3: The Magic of Machu Picchu
This is the moment you have been waiting for. We take an early bus up to the citadel to witness the morning light over Machu Picchu. Your expert guide will lead you through the main temples, plazas, and agricultural sectors, explaining the mysteries of this «Lost City.» After the tour: You will have time to take photos and soak in the energy of the mountains. In the afternoon, we take the train back to Ollantaytambo and transfer you by private bus back to Cusco.
Overnight in Cusco.
Day 4: The Colors of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain)
Prepare for a day of breathtaking natural beauty! We depart early for a full-day adventure to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). As we hike through the high Andes, you will see herds of alpacas, snow-capped peaks (like the mighty Ausangate), and unique red valleys. Reaching the summit at over 5,000 meters (16,400 ft), you will be rewarded with the famous panoramic view of the multi-colored mineral stripes. Evening: We return to Cusco in the late afternoon, giving you time to enjoy a final dinner in the city.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco & Unveiling the Imperial City
Welcome to the Land of the Incas!
Your extraordinary Cusco Machu Picchu Tour begins the moment you touch down. To ensure a smooth start to your adventure, please schedule your flight to arrive in Cusco before noon.
Simply provide us with your flight details in advance, and our team will be waiting at the airport to greet you and transfer you comfortably to your hotel. Take a moment to settle in, refresh, and breathe in the Andean air before your exploration begins.
The City Tour (1:30 PM – 6:30 PM). In the afternoon, we dive deep into the history of this UNESCO World Heritage city. Your guided journey explores a fascinating blend of Incan roots and Spanish colonial architecture, visiting the city’s most iconic sites:
The Plaza de Armas & Cathedral: Stand in the heart of the city and admire the stunning colonial art inside the Cusco Cathedral.
Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun): Witness the precision of Incan engineering at what was once the richest temple in the Inca Empire.
The Four Ruins: We venture just outside the city to explore the massive megaliths of Sacsayhuaman, the labyrinthine rock of Qenqo, the red fortress of Pucapucara, and the ceremonial water fountains of Tambomachay.
How to Spend Your Evening
After the tour concludes at 6:30 PM, the evening is yours to enjoy. Here are our top local recommendations to make the most of your first night:
Sunset at the Plaza: Wander back to the Plaza de Armas as the sun sets. The golden light hitting the stone arcades makes for the perfect photo opportunity.
Culinary Delights: Cusco is a foodie paradise. Visit one of the renowned restaurants surrounding the square to taste authentic Peruvian cuisine (try the Lomo Saltado!).
Artisan Treasures: stroll through the nearby streets to admire the intricate handiwork of Cusqueñian artisans—perfect for picking up a warm alpaca scarf for the days ahead.
Nightlife: If you still have energy, the city center comes alive at night. Explore the vibrant bars and clubs where travelers and locals mix for a lively atmosphere.
Day 2: The Sacred Valley of the Incas & Train to the Cloud Forest
History, Culture, and the Road to Machu Picchu
Today, we leave the city behind and descend into the breathtaking Sacred Valley. Known as the agricultural heart of the Inca Empire, this valley offers a stunning combination of massive ruins, traditional villages, and lush mountain scenery.
Morning: Pisac & Local Flavors Our journey begins with a visit to the Pisac Archaeological Site, where you will marvel at the vast agricultural terraces carved into the mountainside. Afterward, we head down to the colorful Pisac Market. This is the perfect place to browse for unique silver jewelry, alpaca textiles, and local handicrafts.
A Taste of Tradition: Chicha de Jora. We add a special cultural twist to your day! We stop at a traditional local house to uncover the secrets of Chicha de Jora, the fermented corn beer revered by the Incas. You will learn about its brewing process and, of course, have the chance to taste this ancestral beverage—a true toast to the Andes!
Afternoon: The Fortress of Ollantaytambo After enjoying lunch in the valley (surrounded by the Urubamba River and mountain peaks), we explore the living Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Here, we climb the stone steps of the massive fortress that once guarded the valley against Spanish conquistadors. The sheer size of the granite blocks here is mind-blowing!
Evening: The Scenic Train to Aguas Calientes. Instead of driving back to Cusco, we keep the adventure moving forward! In the late afternoon, we board the scenic train at Ollantaytambo station.
The Journey: Relax as the train winds along the Urubamba River. Watch out the window as the landscape dramatically transforms from dry Andean mountains to the lush, green vegetation of the Cloud Forest.
Arrival: We arrive in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town), nestled at the foot of the ruins. You will have the evening free to explore this charming town, grab dinner, and rest up for the big day tomorrow.
Recommendations for Day 2
Pack an Overnight Bag: Since you are taking the train, remember to bring a small daypack with your essentials for the night in Aguas Calientes and the next day at Machu Picchu. (Large luggage can stay safely in Cusco).
Sun Protection: The Sacred Valley is lower in altitude than Cusco but often warmer and sunnier. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential.
Stay Hydrated: Even though you are lower in altitude, keep drinking water to stay energized for the stairs at Ollantaytambo!
Day 3: The Magic of Machu Picchu (Classic Circuit 2)
The Iconic Views & Return to Cusco
This is the moment you have been waiting for! Today, you will experience the World Wonder exactly how you have always imagined it.
The Morning Ascent We rise early to beat the crowds. After a quick breakfast, we board the bus for a 25-minute scenic ride up the winding road. As we climb higher into the cloud forest, the anticipation builds until we reach the entrance of the Inca Citadel.
Your Exclusive Tour: Circuit 2 We have secured entrance tickets for Circuit 2 (The Classic Route)—widely considered the best way to see Machu Picchu. Unlike lower circuits, this route takes you to the upper terrace near the Guardian’s House.
The Perfect Photo: This is the famous spot where you can take that iconic postcard picture with the citadel and Huayna Picchu mountain in the background.
Comprehensive Access: From the top, we descend into the urban sector for a complete exploration.
Guided Exploration: Your expert guide will lead you on a fascinating 2-hour tour through the most important sectors of the city included including this circuit:
The Religious Core: Visit the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Temple of the Sun.
The Sacred Rock: See the massive stone that mimics the shape of the mountain behind it.
The Urban Sector: Walk through the stone streets where the Incas once lived, worked, and worshipped.
The Return Journey After soaking in the mystical energy of the ruins, we take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. You will have some free time here to enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant (not included) before heading to the train station.
Scenic Ride to Cusco. We board the train for a relaxing afternoon journey back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, our private transport will be waiting to whisk you back to Cusco. You will be dropped off at your hotel in the evening, ready to rest up for your next adventure.
Essential Tips for Day 3
Circuit 2 Rules: This is a one-way circuit. Once you pass a specific point (like the viewpoint), you cannot turn back, so make sure to take your photos when your guide tells you!
Original Passport is Mandatory: You cannot enter Machu Picchu without your original physical passport. Copies are not accepted.
No Large Bags: Only small daypacks (approx. 25L) are allowed inside the ruins.
Stamps: Don’t forget to stamp your passport with the commemorative «Machu Picchu» stamp near the exit gate!
Day 4: The Painted Hills of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)
A Trek Above the Clouds
Get your cameras ready—today, we trade the green cloud forests of Machu Picchu for the vibrant reds and golds of the high Andes! Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) has quickly become one of the most famous destinations in South America, and for good reason. Its multi-colored mineral stripes create a surreal landscape you have to see to believe.
The Journey Begins. We start early (around 4:00 AM) to ensure we arrive before the crowds and when the weather is typically best. Our private transport will take us on a 3-hour drive through remote Andean villages, passing herds of grazing alpacas and llamas under the shadow of the mighty Ausangate Mountain—the highest peak in the Cusco region.
The Hike to the Summit After a hearty breakfast near the trailhead, we begin our ascent. The hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, gradually climbing toward the summit at 5,020 meters (16,469 ft). The air is thin here, but the scenery is breathtaking—literally! You will be surrounded by the «Red Valley,» a landscape that looks like the surface of Mars.
Optional: Ride a Horse to the Top. Worried about the altitude or just want to relax and enjoy the view? You can opt to rent a horse from the local community for the ascent.
Save Your Energy: Letting a horse carry you up allows you to save your breath for the photos at the top.
Support Locals: This service is run by local families, so your rental directly supports the community. (Note: The horse takes you about 80% of the way; there is a final short walk to reach the majestic viewpoint.)
The Reward Upon reaching the summit, the view opens up to reveal the stunning 7-colored mountain. You will have plenty of time to explore the ridge, take photos, and soak in the 360-degree views of the Andean range.
Return to Cusco. After conquering the mountain, we descend for a well-deserved, hot lunch prepared by our local chef. We then make the drive back to Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel in the late afternoon (around 5:00 PM)—tired, but triumphant!
Preparation for High Altitude
Rainbow Mountain is significantly higher than Cusco and Machu Picchu. To have the best experience:
Dress Warmly: It can be freezing at the top (and windy!). Bring gloves, a beanie (chullo), and a warm jacket.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water on the drive-up.
Take it Slow: This isn’t a race! Walk at your own pace and listen to your body.
Day 5: Farewell to the Imperial City
¡Adiós, Cusco! Until We Meet Again.
All great adventures must come to an end, but the memories you have made over the last five days will last a lifetime.
A Smooth Departure
Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel. Depending on your flight or bus schedule, you might have a few free hours to pick up some last-minute souvenirs or take one last stroll through the Plaza de Armas.
When it is time to leave, our team will be there to assist you with the hotel check-out process. We will provide a private transfer to the Cusco Airport (Velazco Astete) or the bus terminal, ensuring you arrive with plenty of time for your check-in.
Safe Travels
From the ancient stones of Machu Picchu to the vibrant heights of Rainbow Mountain, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. We hope you leave Peru with a camera full of photos and a heart full of the Andean spirit.
¡Buen viaje! (Safe travels!) We look forward to welcoming you back for your next adventure.
Departure Tips
Airport Arrival: We recommend arriving at Cusco airport 2 hours before a domestic flight.
Souvenirs: If you have last-minute shopping to do, keep in mind that alpaca wool items should be packed in your carry-on if they are fragile, but generally, suitcases are best for textiles.
Check-Out: Most hotels in Cusco have a check-out time of 10:00 AM. If your flight is later, hotels are happy to store your luggage for free while you enjoy lunch.
Bonus: Machu Picchu vs. Rainbow Mountain

🎒 Pack Smart: Your Guide to Cusco & Machu Picchu
Getting ready for your Peruvian adventure? We want to make sure you are comfortable, safe, and ready for anything!
While our private vehicles handle the heavy lifting between destinations, please remember that you will need to handle your own luggage at airports, get it in and out of hotels, and occasionally walk short distances with it. Our Golden Rule: Pack light to travel right.
🧳 Luggage Guidelines
Main Luggage: A small to medium-sized wheeled suitcase is ideal for the storage capacity of our vehicles. Please aim to keep this under 20kg (44lbs) to comply with most domestic airline restrictions.
Day Pack: Bring a comfortable backpack for daily activities. You’ll need this to carry your water, camera, sunscreen, and rain gear while we explore.
✅ The Essentials (Don’t leave home without these!)
Your Original Passport: This is non-negotiable! You must have your physical passport to enter Machu Picchu. Keep it in a dry, safe place inside your day pack.
Sturdy Closed-Toe Shoes: Cusco has cobblestones and the ruins have grassy, uneven terrain. Closed shoes protect your feet from cuts, scrapes, and the elements (including the rare bug bite).
Sun Protection: The high-altitude sun is strong!
Wide-brimmed hat
High-quality sunglasses
High SPF sunscreen
Cash (Soles): while cards work in the city, carry local currency in small coins for souvenirs and buying snacks in remote areas.
Insect Repellent: Essential for the lower altitudes and cloud forests.
Camera/Phone: To capture those once-in-a-lifetime views!
🌿 Recommended Gear & Eco-Tips
Reusable Water Bottle (1.5L+): We strongly encourage bringing a reusable bottle. Single-use plastic is a major global issue; making just one plastic bottle requires 2 liters of water and oil! Help us keep Peru beautiful by refilling instead of tossing.
Personal Medical Kit: Your guide carries a comprehensive first aid kit, but for minor comforts, please bring your own supply of:
Mild painkillers (Tylenol/Advil)
Electrolytes (great for altitude hydration)
Band-aids/Plasters
Document Copies: Keep digital photos or physical photocopies of your passport, tickets, and vaccination certs separate from the originals. It makes replacement much easier if the originals go missing.
Electrical Adapter: Peru generally uses Types A and C plugs.
Alarm Clock: Your phone works perfectly for this to ensure you’re up for those early Andean sunrises.
🛌 Comfort & Optional Items
Earplugs: A travel lifesaver if you have a snoring roommate or a hotel near a busy street.
Spanish Phrasebook: A little Hablamos Español goes a long way with the locals!
💎 Valuables & Safety
Please leave unnecessary luxury items and expensive jewelry at home. For the essentials you do bring:
Use the hotel safe whenever possible.
Consider a money belt or hidden pouch to keep cash and documents close to your body.
🧺 A Note on Laundry
Don’t feel the need to pack an outfit for every single day!
Availability: Laundry service is available in most cities.
Timing: Plan to do laundry during a two-night layover to ensure you get it back in time.
Cost Tip: Hotel laundry usually charges per item. Local laundromats (lavanderías) usually charge per kilo (approx. $2 USD/kg), which is much more economical.

– Lunch: If you’re looking for a quick grab-and-go option, you can get away with spending as little as $5 to $10 at a local restaurant for a set menu or a sandwich and drink from a coffee shop. However, if you prefer a more touristy restaurant, the cost can range between 10 and 15 USD.
