The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a program designed for travellers with and without trekking experience. You will arrive in Cusco 2 days before you start to hike. This will give you an opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude. You will do simple activities on this days (check the Itinerary about) which will also help. The Inca Trail is 45km and the maximum elevation is 4,200 masl. The trek consists of walking slowly enjoying the mountain views, the plants, the birds, stopping for snacks and lunch and for explanations of Inca history. The first day, we will walk 15km/8 hours, second day 15km/8 hours, the third day 10km/5 hours and the last day 5km/2 hours. The first day is always the hardest. We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.
