Eight-day Salkantay Trek gives you two days in the city of Cusco before we start the lifetime trek (acclimatization to the altitude); you will visit the surrounds of the city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas; the Salkantay Trek will take you around Salkantay Mountain, considered as the second biggest mountain in the region of Cusco (6,271 masl/20,568ft).

The first day of the trek, you will hike through the high Andean Valley and the camp will be within clear sight of the snow-capped peak of Salkantay Mountain;  The second day will be the longest day of the of the trek and while you work a bit harder to get there, the views at the top are even more rewarding.

The walk to reach the Salkantay Pass at 4,600 masl/15,088ft (the Inca Trail’s ‘Dead Woman’s Pass’ is only at 4,200 masl/13,776 ft); it is not strenuous neither very steep, afterward it is mainly a descent into a more tropical area passing Inca terraces at Chaullay on the far side of the mountain.

The Sacred Valley is a full-day tour that starts at 08:30 a.m when we’ll pick you up from your hotel and head toward the productive valley; the Sacred Valley was an important cradle of food for the Incas, the Sacred Valley is a lush of agricultural area that continues to supply the city of Cusco with much of its produce, specially corn and vegetables.

We will visit the impressive ruins of Pisac and the colourful artisan market where you could purchase handcrafts directly from producers. Then, we will continue toward the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, a site of another large Inca ruin.

This major ruin site is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering. It is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Inca Fortress and for being one of the few places where the Spaniards lost a major battle during the conquest.

After that, we’ll return to Cusco and stop at Chichero another Inca temple located on top of the Chinchero Mountain that today the ruin forms the base of the colonial church of virgin Montserrat.

Early in the morning, we’ll depart from Cusco towards the village of Mollepata, here we’ll begin the trek accompanied by our support staff; the trek will takes us by spectacular views of the majestic Salkantay Peak as well as towards other snow mountains and down into Apurimac Canyon. The first day.

We will cam at Soraypampa; on the second day, we will see the scenery change from dry mountain landscapes to more tropical surroundings.

After an early start, we will ascend past snowy peaks to the highest point of the trek, at a pass reaching 4,600 meters above sea level (Salkantay pass). From here the views are spectacular towards the mountains of Umantay, Chullunco and Salkantay.

Descending from the pass, we will camp at Chullay. The next day, we will continue through tropical forest and camp at “Playa Sawayaco”. The final day of the trek takes us down further into the tropical surroundings and to the town of “Hidroeléctrica” from where we’ll continue the trek by the railway to the town of “Aguas Calientes” and have accommodation in the hotel and be ready for the visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

After an early breakfast, we will take the first bus and take advantage of viewing Machu Picchu in the early morning light. This is the best time to view the “Lost City of the Incas”. You will have a 2-hour tour and visit the Agricultural site, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Mother Earth, the quarry of Machu Picchu, and the Temple of the Andean Cosmology, the sundial and other interesting places.

Our Guides carry a comprehensive medical kit. But you should bring your own personal kit and carry it with you when on the trek /tour. It should contain antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, headache pills, diarrhea treatment, re-hydration salts eg Dioralite, Lemsip.

We advise you to bring US dollars; it is always better to travel with US dollars.
